Background

A HISTORY OF PASSION

The Passion of a whole life. It's what explains this beautiful success of two good friends who one day decided to create their own company. Normand Parenteau and Julien Boissonneault, are the two co-owners of J.N. AUTO ROAD SIDE inc. which, at the end of 1981, had chosen (at 36 years and 32 years) to have fun a little bit by offering vehicles to people that they knew in their sector. All two natives from Danville, Mr. Parenteau knew its current partner since his youth. At the beginning, Mr. Boissonneault was a contractor in distribution of baked products and became owner of a small restaurant. During winter time the small restaurant was closed and he had to find something else to occupy itself. Mr. Parenteau worked, for its part, as a sale representative on the road, for his brothers at Revêtement Richmond. However, from December to January, work was less demanding for this one also. So, in order to occupy and of keep them in shape, our two friends had developed a routine to make cross-country skiing. Over two years period, every winter mornings, at ten o'clock and half, both comparses gave each other appointment to traverse the paths of the sector for at least a good hour. These ballades were a good time for discussion. All two passioned of cars, the third year, they had the idea to buy a used vehicle and put it clean in order to resell it.

A FIRST VEHICLE

We are now in December 1981. A citizen of Asbestos had a 1975 CHRYSLER CORDOBA to sell. The engine doesn't start. Norman and Julien got it with few expenses. It is decided. A first investment of 500 $ and the car is entirely renovated in the small garage of Julien Boissonneault. One week later, the car is sold. The leisure also made it possible to do a little income. Encouraged by this sale, a second used vehicle is thus immediately bought in a dealer and the history will be repeated thus on several occasions until the day when the two fellow-members decide to join and to form their own company.

The first vehicles

PURCHASES IN BLOCK

January 1982. The things go fast. It is the beginning of a great adventure. They go regularly to the Quebec City car auction. February, sales and still sales... And even more purchase of vehicles. It is now 5 or 6 cars they decide to offer in the Norman's yard. The keys are hung in the kitchen of the family house. A light is spotting from the house roof to the cars for sale. They install a small office in order to receive customers and keep the intimacy of the residence. Since this time, the two wifes encourage their companions in their enterprise. At springtime, the two friends find that their pastime take many place in their daily schedule. Julien, always owner of his small restaurant, tells to Normand that if he sells his small restaurant, he could seriously think of full-time in the sale of used vehicles. The next day, the small restaurant is sold and Julien is free of his time.

THE TRUE DEPARTURE

Normand does not have the choice, he takes a sabbatical year and help his friend in this new company. For him, working in the world of cars is a youth dream. The little of already customers, were all satisfied with their purchase and he after-sales follow-up. The AFTER-SALES SERVICE was going to become the key element, for the two owners. Once again, the wives of Normand and Julien had to make many sacrifices because the two men were less and less at home, in order to start the business. Regularly, they help in various levels. Even still today Rita and Lucie imply themselves regularly and with pride at J.N. AUTO.

THE SALES GO UP

1982, FIRST YEAR, 250 CARS SOLD. Second year: 350 cars and so on until reaching the ceiling of 600 cars in 1991. Since this date, J.N. AUTO sells each year between 600 and 650 vehicles, always inspected and in perfect condition.

THE GREAT MOVING

1985 was an important one. The court of Mr. Parenteau become too small, a Real Estate agent proposes the purchase of an extremely well-known club: The ROAD SIDE Pavilion, old place of gathering of a whole generation and abandoned since a few years. Some will remember to have attended the spectacles of Lévis Bouliane, Richard Ti-White, Bobby Hachey, Willie Lamothe and many others. They could not better choose! For people of the area, this place was strongly known. The purchase of this ground became more than strategic, being given the site on the driving roadside 116 to Asbestos and the space available of four hundred feet of frontage, nothing less. The idea germinates a few days, but the duo makes the decision quickly to buy, which was to prove the good choice once again. One needed however much investments. Several years of efforts as well as many adjustments and enlargings are made, while preserving the seal of Road Side with its round building, its retro pace of the first years. "It was important for us to preserve the same convivial aspect as front." Mr. Parenteau says to us.

A TRUE PASSION

More than one hundred vehicles. From four to six and eight cylinders, from Cars to Convertibles, up to the 4 X 4 and Utility Sport or MiniVan... There is always a large choice and vehicles are always bought according to their customers which they wish to satisfy the most possible by an after-sales service which made their reputation within the years. "When I see a vehicle of my taste, I think that if me I find it beautiful, it is sure that somebody will be also interested to buy it" says Mr. Parenteau. "If the vehicle does not attract me, I do not buy it. Buying a vehicle a little bit like a thunderbolt not? " Is not necessary to be mistaken! " he says with his broad smile. "Me, it is not really of my fault, my work to sell cars, it is a passion. Certain people have passions for the horses, the dogs, the music... me, it is cars" he adds.

KNOWN AND RECOGNIZED COMPANY

Today, J.N. AUTO is a company known and recognized a little everywhere within the country and even outside. Now, thanks to technology and to their Website www.jnauto.com, it is not rare to have orders of a little everywhere in province, with the country and even of outside, until Switzerland. Mr. Parenteau, far from being convinced of this new technology, he trust their two sons-in-law who are passioned of this technology. Finally, he acknowledge to appreciate now at the most point this new way of selling and buying vehicles.

AFTER SALE SERVICE IRREPROACHABLE

"We are perhaps not a garage of great luxury, but cleanliness here has priority and we have the complete file of each vehicle which we can show at each customer who makes the request. We are not constrained our vehicles and above all, we like to see our customers returning, certain on our premises since the beginnings. For this reason we made register on the front of the building and in large letters: AFTER-SALES SERVICE IRREPROACHABLE... and we are not afraid to shout it high and strong. We always do the most so that the customer is entirely satisfied. We are eight people here and all let us have the same goal, the same attitude. It is a little a family company. My wife, Rita, work there on the occasion; the wife of Julien, Lucie is an administrative secretary; my two sons-in-law, Stephan and Sebastien are advisers; my brother, Lucien works with the service with Jean-Guy Marchand... " "I make a point of mentioning the important implication of our wives who, during these 25 years, always supported us. Their implication in the company, is without question, the response to this beautiful success. They are not all the women who would accept that their men work up to 73 hours per week... and this, over one 25 years period! The vacation is rare when this type of company is directed and that we want to offer the best possible service to our customers. Yes, we owe them a proud candle because it was not always easy for them. " Normand Parenteau concludes.
